The 20th Berbice Expo and Trade Fair has been hailed a success, drawing more than 3,000 patrons over four nights as exhibitor standards continued to rise.
The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) organised the exhibition at the Rose Hall Estate Community Centre ground. Businesses, exhibitors, entertainment and family activities drew crowds throughout the event.
CCCC President Adrian Anamayah told Ignite News that nightly turnout exceeded expectations, with many patrons returning with their families.
"The turnout for every night has been beyond our expectations. So it has been a wonderful, incident-free exposition so far," he said.
Anamayah said the expo has become a staple event for Berbicians, with patrons travelling from across the region to attend.
CCCC Public Relations Officer Poonai Bhigroog said the event has come a long way since its early years, when many exhibitors operated from zinc sheds covered with tarpaulin. He said exhibitors have steadily raised their standards, resulting in a more polished presentation this year.
Bhigroog described the setting and scale of this year's event as exceptional, citing the number of exhibitors and patrons as evidence of its continued growth.
Anamayah said the expo's impact extends beyond the four nights, as proceeds are traditionally channelled into community development projects.
This year, the CCCC has committed funds to rehabilitation work on the roof of a pavilion at the Rose Hall Estate Community Centre. The chamber is also supporting construction of a play park in Rose Hall Town, with expo proceeds expected to help complete the project.
"We are identifying some other community projects that would be done, hopefully within the next year," Anamayah said.
He thanked GuySuCo for making the grounds available and the Guyana Police Force for providing security throughout the four nights. He also thanked the Government of Guyana, including the Tourism, Natural Resources and Agriculture ministries, for sponsorship and technical assistance.
