A 21-year-old man died after his car toppled several times and landed in a trench on the Number Six Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Sunday night.

According to police, Afridi Rahaman, of Bath Plantation, was driving west along the southern side of the road at about 8:20pm when he reportedly lost control while negotiating a right turn. The car, owned by Jamaladeen Rahaman, crossed to the northern side before coming to rest in the trench.

Passers-by pulled Rahaman and the 19-year-old front-seat passenger, Parveena Brijemal, from the vehicle and they were taken to the Bath Regional Hospital.

Rahaman, who was reportedly unconscious, was pronounced dead on arrival. Brijemal, who was conscious, was admitted for observation and her condition was reported to be stable.
