A 44-year-old miner is in custody after police found 36 pounds of suspected cocaine concealed in frozen fish in a vehicle he was driving at Providence, East Bank Demerara, on Sunday.

Police said ranks intercepted the vehicle, in which the miner was the sole occupant, during an intelligence-led operation at Richmondville, Providence.

A search of the trunk turned up two bags of frozen fish. Further examination found 15 parcels containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine concealed inside the fish. The substance weighed 36 pounds before it was lodged.

The miner was taken to CID Headquarters along with the suspected narcotics and the vehicle. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
