Jamaican driver Tommi Gore will team up with the J's brand this weekend as the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) opens its 2026 National Championships.
The pairing brings together Gore and the J's Racing Stable, known for its recent dominance in horse racing, as the outfit makes its foray into motorsport. Gore is set to drive One Guyana Team's KTM X-Bow in Group 4.
"I am looking forward to being back competing with the One Guyana team. I got the call just this week to ask if I could make it to drive the J's Supermarket KTM in Group 4," Gore said.
"I'm looking forward to driving against a new set of competitors, as well as getting some more track time ahead of the November 1 Guyana Grand Prix. And most importantly, putting on a show for the patrons coming out to support this event," he added.
J's Supermarket owner Jermaine Sripal said the team is confident heading into the race, despite facing stiff competition.
"We are very confident in the car. It's a group four race, and we have some serious contenders. We have Rameez (Mohamed and the BM Soat/Prem's Electrical KTM X-Bow) that has almost double the horsepower of our car, but we are still very confident and hoping for some good results," Sripal said.
"Just like our racing stables, it's always important to have a great team around us to make things go well, and I think we have a great team around us for this weekend, especially with the introduction of Tommi," he said.
Admission for the championship round has been set at $4,000 for adults and $2,000 for children.
Today's practice sessions begin at 10am, with each class allocated a 20-minute slot. Bikes run from 10am to 10:20am, followed by GP4/GP3 from 10:20am to 10:40am and GP2 from 10:40am to 11am. Rookie/Female follows from 11am to 11:20am, then 1500/1600 from 11:20am to 11:40am, Starlet from 11:40am to 12pm and Vitz from 12pm to 12:20pm. The track closes at 12:20pm ahead of qualifying.
Qualifying begins at 1pm, with Bikes from 1pm to 1:20pm, GP3 from 1:20pm to 1:40pm, GP4 from 1:40pm to 2pm and GP2 from 2pm to 2:20pm. Rookie qualifies from 2:20pm to 2:40pm, followed by Female from 2:40pm to 3pm. The 1500 class runs from 3pm to 3:20pm, followed by 1600 from 3:20pm to 3:40pm and Starlet from 3:40pm to 4pm, with the Vitz Cup closing qualifying from 4pm to 4:20pm.
The GMR&SC is urging all competitors to be on time and prepared for their respective sessions.
Sunday's Race Day will run in three two-hour blocks, from 10am to 12pm, 12pm to 2pm and 2pm to 4pm, each following the same running order of Bikes, 1500/1600, Rookie/Female, GP2/Starlet, Vitz and GP3/GP4. A Handicap session will close the day from 4pm to 4:20pm.
The 2026 championship is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, One Guyana, GuyOil, ENet, KFC, Tropical Shipping and Castrol. (GMR&SC)
