Guyana's Sachia Vickery produced a determined three-set performance to advance to the semi-finals of the women's singles tennis competition at the South American Games in Rosario, Argentina.

Vickery defeated Chile's Antonia Vergara Rivera 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in a closely contested quarter-final encounter.

The Guyanese player made a confident start, controlling the opening set to secure it 6-2. Vergara Rivera responded strongly in the second, winning 6-3 to force a deciding set.

With a place in the final four at stake, Vickery regained her composure and held her nerve during the crucial moments of the third set, sealing it 6-4 to complete the hard-fought victory.

The result continues an impressive Games debut for the seventh-seeded Vickery. The 31-year-old professional has previously reached a career-high singles ranking of 73 in the world.

Vickery is now one victory away from reaching the women's singles final and competing for the gold medal.
