Lisa Hamilton is set to become the first Guyanese to compete in the Scuola Pizza Championship, taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 26 and 27.
Hamilton steps in for Alex Tenorio, who is unable to participate for unforeseen reasons, a release said.

Tenorio had won the Neapolitan category at the inaugural EU-Guyana Pizza Competition in June and was originally slated to represent Guyana at the Argentina event. Hamilton, who won the Guyanese category, was declared overall winner after scoring the most points across both categories.

EU Ambassador to Guyana Luca Pierantoni said Hamilton's participation marked a proud moment for the partnership between Europe and Guyana.

"We are delighted to see Lisa Hamilton make history as the first Guyanese to participate in the Scuola Pizza Championship in Buenos Aires. Her participation is a wonderful continuation of the inaugural EU–Guyana Pizza Competition, which celebrated the strong cultural ties between Europe and Guyana through food, creativity and shared traditions," he said.

Pierantoni added that Hamilton was an outstanding representative of Guyana's culinary talent and expressed confidence she would use the experience to further enrich the country's growing culinary sector.

Hamilton is currently head chef at Herdmanston Lodge and has a background in baking and pizza making.

At the championship, the overall winner will be determined by the highest combined score across the Margherita STG Pizza, Contemporary Pizza, Pizza Romana in Teglia and Gourmet Pizza categories. In the event of a tie, the result will be decided by the score in the Pizza in Pala category. The winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy.
