The Guyana Amazon Warriors will not be lifting the Caribbean Premier League trophy this year.
After dominating the league stage and giving supporters another reason to believe, the Warriors crashed out of CPL 2026 on Friday, suffering a five-wicket defeat to the Jamaica Kingsmen in Qualifier Two in Bridgetown.
The loss was perhaps the most painful of the Warriors’ three consecutive defeats. Shimron Hetmyer delivered a sensational unbeaten century to carry Guyana to 206 for four, but even that was not enough to secure a place in Sunday’s final.
Jamaica chased down the 207-run target with two balls remaining, reaching 207 for five.
The result completed a dramatic collapse for a Warriors side that had topped the standings with eight victories from ten matches.
Their troubles began with a shocking 99 all out against the Barbados Tridents in their final league match. They then folded for just 76 against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Qualifier One.
Friday’s performance appeared to signal a turnaround.
After Guyana lost both openers inside five overs, Hetmyer launched a fierce counterattack. He added 96 runs with Shai Hope, who made 40, before putting together another 65-run partnership with Quentin Sampson.
Hetmyer reached his century from the final ball of the innings, finishing on 102 not out from just 45 deliveries. His explosive innings included eight sixes and marked his second century of the season.
But Jamaica refused to be overwhelmed.
Maaz Sadaqat made 41, while Keacy Carty held the chase together with 56 from 40 balls. Captain Rovman Powell then delivered the decisive blow, smashing an unbeaten 40 from 17 deliveries.
When Powell arrived, Jamaica still needed 55 runs from 29 balls. His late assault, which included four sixes, turned the match and ended Guyana’s campaign.
For Warriors supporters, the exit will feel like another major opportunity lost. Guyana entered the playoffs as the competition’s leading team but failed to win when it mattered most.
The Kingsmen, competing in their first CPL season, will now face the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Sunday’s final.
