APNU Members of Parliament say any meeting with President Dr Irfaan Ali must come with a clear agenda and full documentation, provided sufficiently in advance for proper examination.

Ali said during a press briefing on Monday that he would meet with opposition members of the Economic Services and Foreign Relations Committees of Parliament to brief them on a number of matters of national interest.

In a statement bearing the names of MPs Dr Terrence Campbell, Juretha Fernandes, Dr Riaz Rupnarain and Coretta McDonald, serving on the Foreign Relations and Economic Services Committees, APNU said such meetings should take place before agreements are finalised and signed, so participation can meaningfully influence national decisions.

The MPs said APNU's decision on whether to attend would depend on the context and content, and whether there was a genuine opportunity to influence policy and secure improvements.

They also called for a transparent foreign-exchange strategy amid pressure on the Guyana dollar, and renewed calls for a defined minimum share of the Natural Resource Fund to be protected, along with independent oversight of any move to diversify its assets.

The MPs further called for measurable cost-of-living relief, a region-by-region account of education gaps, stronger school safety measures, and a published schedule addressing delays in school construction, including at Orealla Secondary School.

They said APNU remains ready for serious national dialogue but was "not prepared to decorate decisions already taken."
