A trip to watch cricket turned fatal for 19-year-old Danesh Prabudial, who died early Saturday when his motorcycle crashed into a lamp pole on the Albion Public Road, Berbice.

Prabudial, of Lot 505 Belvedere, Corentyne, a Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) worker, was killed around 12:45am, while riding motorcycle CK 360, owned by 22-year-old Shahid Mohamed.

According to police enquiries, Prabudial was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of the Albion Public Road when he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a lamp pole on the northern side of the road. Police noted that he was not wearing a safety helmet at the time.

He was flung from the motorcycle and fell onto the road surface, sustaining injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.

His mother, 36-year-old Kavita Prabudial, recalled that Danesh had returned home from work around 6pm on Friday, ate, showered and later told her he was going out to watch cricket with friends.

"He tell me he going out. He work and come and he told me he going out and watch cricket on the road. He normally does go there," she told Ignite News.

"Then me get one call and say he got an accident. And then we go. And while me going out ... same time, them said he passed away," she added.

Kavita said she struggled to believe her son had died when she saw him following the crash.

"He just lay down and just his face got a little scratch and he body looked perfect. Like nothing wrong with him," she recounted.

Persons at the scene told her that Danesh had been riding at speed and may have lost control before crashing into the lamp pole. However, she noted that the motorcycle did not belong to her son.

Kavita described her son as a peaceful and friendly young man, adding that the loss has left an emptiness in the family home.

"He was a very good child. He never fight or argue. All over he go he make friend. He's a good person. And I don't think me would able live in this house without he, knowing that he not here," she said.

Prabudial's body is currently at Ramoo Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
