GWI is ramping up access to affordable drinking water with the opening of a bottle refilling station at Lima, Region Two, on Tuesday, the third such facility to come into operation.
GWI Region Two Manager Brionne Gangaram said the station was rehabilitated with treated water from the Lima Treatment Plant, processed through a series of filters to bring it up to drinkable standards. He said recent tests, conducted about a week ago, confirmed the water was well within drinking water quality.
“It is very affordable at $100 a bottle. I think this is a very good initiative,” Gangaram said.
Also speaking at the launch, GWI Arrears Recovery Manager Nicholas Dawalat said Lima is one of several refill stations opening throughout the country, with more to come in the following days.
“This is actually the third initiative that we are launching officially and we have many more opening up in the coming days. The water that you are getting is treated water at an affordable costing of $100, which means that you do not have to pay high pricing for water. We are bringing water to you for domestic usage,” he said.
GWI already operates a similar station at Pouderoyen, with the Port Mourant facility opened this month. The rollout is part of a widerence to ease the burden of accessing potable water for households and small businesses.
