Internationally acclaimed Guyanese artist Eddy Grant is set to headline a special session on the “orange economy” at the World Trade Centre Georgetown’s International Trade and Investment Conference, as the organisation seeks to spotlight opportunities for artists and creative businesses.
The conference, scheduled for October 19 to 23, will bring together businesses and trade representatives from Guyana, the Caribbean, Latin America and other markets, with a focus on strengthening commercial connections and identifying new opportunities for investment and trade.
WTCG Executive Director Wesley Kirton said Grant has agreed to deliver the keynote presentation.
“Eddy has agreed to be the keynote speaker at a session that will look at the orange economy, with a particular focus on music and copyright-related issues,” Kirton said.
Grant’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion examining the challenges and opportunities within the orange economy, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, artists and the wider arts community, including copyright protection and the potential for creative enterprises to become more sustainable businesses.
Kirton said Grant’s reach and global fan base demonstrate the potential of Guyana’s creative industries to access audiences and markets beyond the country. He also disclosed that Grant has been exploring business opportunities in Guyana.
The WTCG conference is expected to use the session to encourage greater recognition of the creative industries as a contributor to economic development, while connecting Guyanese artists and businesses with wider opportunities.
