Police investigate two suspected suicides in separate communities

Police are investigating two separate suspected suicide cases following the deaths of a 52-year-old driver in Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara, and a 17-year-old student at Kamarang Landing, Upper Mazaruni River.

The most recent incident occurred on Saturday, August 29, at driver’s residence. Investigators said the 52-year-old, who lived alone, was found unresponsive in his apartment by a neighbour at around 09:00 hrs.

Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead. His body was subsequently taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

In the second incident, the 17-year-old was discovered between 02:00 hrs and 03:00 hrs on Friday, August 28.

According to preliminary investigations, the teenager was discovered unresponsive at her home by relatives and taken to the Kamarang District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detectives who examined the body observed an impression around the neck but found no other visible marks of violence on the exposed side of the body.

The teenager’s body remains at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are continuing into both deaths.
