Six one-megawatt generators donated by Bosai Minerals Group Guyana Inc. and Guyana Manganese Inc. are expected to boost Linden’s electricity supply as demand grows across the town and along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
The generators, along with accessories for the power plant, were formally handed over to the Guyana Power and Light Inc. under an agreement signed on Friday.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips said the additional six megawatts would help meet increasing residential, commercial and industrial demand driven by new housing, businesses and investment in Region Ten.
“Your donation of the six megawatts will help in that growing development and meet that growing demand for electricity in Linden,” Phillips said.
Head of GPL’s Executive Management Committee Kesh Nandlall said the generators would be strategically positioned to support Linden, improve voltage levels along the highway and serve expanding communities and businesses.
However, no commissioning date or deployment locations were announced during the ceremony.
The agreement was signed by Nandlall and Bosai representative George Zhao. Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar and Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Yang Yang were among those witnessing the signing.
The generators are being added as other energy projects are planned for Region Ten. The Guyana Utility-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Programme is expected to provide 15 megawatts, while Bosai is developing a separate 10-megawatt solar farm.
Those projects are projected to deliver a combined 25 megawatts of renewable generating capacity by the end of 2028.
Speaking for Bosai, Norman McLean said the company remained committed to supporting Linden and Guyana’s wider economy.
