Brandon Grimmond starred with bat and ball as Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) beat Abram Zuil Secondary by six wickets in Qualifier 1 of the 2026 Beharry Secondary Schools Under-19 T20 Tournament at the Queen’s College Ground on Sunday.
Grimmond took five wickets for 10 runs to dismantle the Abram Zuil innings, then made a patient 25 as BEI chased down a modest target of 89, finishing on 89-4 inside 17 overs.
Abram Zuil had gone into the match with Ravid Fredricks in fine form after unbeaten scores of 91 and 92 in recent matches, but the BEI attack gave him little room, restricting him to a run-a-ball 30. Captain Otis Roberts added 17, but the rest of the batting order struggled as Abram Zuil were bundled out for 88.
Ray Ramnauth supported Grimmond with figures of 2-26.
In reply, Luke Amsterdam, among the tournament’s most consistent run-scorers, struck 33 from 29 deliveries before Grimmond added his 25 from 41 balls to steer BEI home despite Abram Zuil’s efforts to apply pressure through the middle overs.
Rhonel Nurse was the pick of the Abram Zuil bowlers with 2-10, while Eshwar Tilak took 1-17 and Fredricks 1-25.
The victory strengthened BEI’s push towards the final, while Abram Zuil will look to keep their campaign alive when they face Annandale Secondary in Qualifier 2 at the Enterprise Ground on Wednesday, August 19.
