Guyana is preparing for a major expansion in oil production, with its fifth floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), the Errea Wittu, expected to arrive off the country’s coast this week.
President Dr Irfaan Ali said the vessel, which set sail from Singapore in early August, was expected to begin producing oil in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Errea Wittu was built by MODEC for ExxonMobil’s Uaru development at a cost of approximately US$12.7 billion. It is designed to add roughly 250,000 barrels per day to Guyana’s production capacity and push national output beyond one million barrels per day for the first time, Ali said.
Guyana’s four existing FPSOs are currently producing between 900,000 and 920,000 barrels of oil per day. The Uaru development is expected to target more than 800 million barrels of recoverable oil from the Snoek, Mako and Uaru resources in the Stabroek Block.
The arrival of the Errea Wittu will not immediately translate into production, however. The vessel must first be installed offshore, connected to subsea infrastructure and wells, and undergo testing and commissioning.
