A US$150 million investment package to expand bauxite mining and processing in Guyana was the focus of talks on Tuesday, as Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar met with representatives of First Bauxite, Strategic Bauxite USA, LLC (SBX) and ElementUSA.
The package will fund the acquisition and expansion of the First Bauxite mine, the establishment of new calcination facilities for primary processing, and the development of a brown-fused alumina facility in the United States, Minister Indar said in a Faceboom post.
Discussions during the courtesy call focused on the project’s electricity requirements, power supply options and other technical considerations associated with the proposed investment and expanded processing operations. Indar welcomed the move towards greater value-added processing in Guyana, describing it as an important signal for the country’s development.
The meeting also included Member of Parliament and Legal Adviser to the Ministry James Bond, Director General Alfonso De Armas, Senior Commercial Officer of the US Embassy Bruce J Ellsworth, and Commercial Specialist Amanda Edmondson.
