Four young men have been charged and remanded to prison in connection with a violent home invasion at No. 1 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, during which a businessman and his family were robbed of more than $4 million in cash and jewellery.
The accused are 21-year-old Tsoi, called “Timmy,” a construction worker of Lot 9 Alness Village, Corentyne; 21-year-old Mohan Panchoo, called “Leon,” a labourer of Lot 33 Alness Village, Corentyne; 24-year-old Derwin Hawker of Nurney Village, Corentyne; and 23-year-old Kristopher Mendonca, called “Khris,” of Lot 69 Alness Village, Corentyne.
The four men were arrested between 24 and 26 July 2026.
They were charged on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, with three counts of robbery with violence, contrary to Section 222(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The accused appeared via Zoom before Magistrate T. Hardy at the Albion Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charges were read to them.
Bail was refused, and all four men were remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until 18 August 2026 for report.
The charges stem from a violent robbery committed against 51-year-old businessman Narinedutt Ramnarine, called “Passy,” of Lot 445 No. 1 Road, Corentyne, from whom $3.5 million in cash was allegedly stolen.
His daughter, 30-year-old Jayadevi Ramnarine, was allegedly robbed of a gold ring valued at $112,000, while 31-year-old Monica Balgobind was allegedly robbed of gold jewellery valued at $362,500.
Ignite News had previously reported that the family was attacked during a terrifying home invasion on Monday night, 13 July 2026, when five masked bandits allegedly stormed their residence around 8:30pm.
Ramnarine, a livestock dealer, said he and his family were confronted by armed men who threatened them with guns and cutlasses, assaulted family members, and ransacked the home.
The businessman said the attackers demanded money before taking approximately $4 million in cash, which he kept to facilitate transactions in his livestock business.
His daughter Jayadevi had also recounted that the attackers assaulted her and threatened the family while her young children were present during the ordeal.
The bandits also reportedly stole gold jewellery from the women before firing shots and fleeing the scene, damaging vehicles parked at the property.
