A 28-year-old Essequibo Coast man died on Monday afternoon after he was reportedly electrocuted.
Kelton Benn, of Dartmouth Village, had gone to use an outdoor toilet at the back of his yard when he failed to return, prompting a relative to search for him. He was found lying motionless near a chicken coop.
Investigators said an electrical wire had been connected from the house to the chicken coop several months earlier to provide lighting, and it is suspected Benn came into contact with the wire.
Two children, aged nine and six, were later observed shaking while leaning against the same structure. They were rushed to Lima Regional Hospital, where they were admitted for observation.
Benn was also taken to the hospital, where he was examined and pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. His body has since been taken to the Lima Regional Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Guyana Power and Light Inc was contacted, and the electrical connection to the chicken coop was disconnected. Police investigations are ongoing.
