The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has received a hearse donated by the family of Owal Mustapha Rahman, father of Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, to support the organisation’s free funeral services programme for poor and vulnerable persons across Guyana.
The vehicle was purchased by the minister’s son, Javed Mustapha, and handed over during a simple ceremony.
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha said the family wanted to honour his late father’s memory by supporting an initiative that provides comfort and assistance to families during difficult moments.
He said the CIOG has for many years offered funeral services at no cost to those unable to afford them, and that contributing to the effort was a fitting tribute to his father’s legacy.
Head of the CIOG Sheikh Moen ul-Hack, receiving the donation on behalf of the organisation, thanked the Mustapha family for the contribution.
He said a needs assessment conducted by the organisation’s funeral services department had identified the challenges many families face in meeting funeral expenses, and that the department has since relied heavily on public donations to subsidise its operational costs.
Sheikh Moen ul-Hack said the donation would significantly enhance the CIOG’s ability to serve vulnerable families, and expressed hope that the gesture would encourage others to support charitable initiatives.
The organisation said the hearse would immediately strengthen its capacity to provide funeral services to families in need.
