The wife of a 27-year-old labourer who was fatally stabbed during an altercation at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, in the early hours of Tuesday is appealing for a thorough police investigation into his death.
Naresh Seecharran was at Lot 39 Haswell with three other men when an argument with 20-year-old Parmeshwar Lionel, called “Small Man,” reportedly escalated into a scuffle, police said. Investigators allege Seecharran was stabbed once to the neck during the confrontation. Lionel reportedly fled the scene but was later arrested at No. 19 Village, Corentyne.
Seecharran’s wife, 22-year-old Sybrina Sinclair, said she last spoke to her husband by phone after 7pm on Monday, when he told her he would return home the following morning.
She said he had been drinking with others when the argument broke out.
“So he called me after 7, and we talked, and he said he’ll come home in the morning. They said that he and two other boys, they would drink, and like, he and one of them got into an argument,” Sinclair said.
Sinclair said she arrived at the scene while her husband was still lying on the ground, and later learnt he had succumbed to a single stab wound to the neck. She said she remains unable to understand what caused the dispute to turn violent.
“Nobody know really the problem, so I don’t know what caused the problem, for them to get in a fight to that extent,” she said.
Sinclair described her husband as a kind and playful man who was loved by those around him, and a devoted father who put his family first. The couple had been together for seven years and shared a three-year-old daughter, who is due to start school in September.
“My husband used to do everything for me, every single day, everything. We used to wake up together, go to sleep together, and he loved his daughter too. She got to start school in September, and he’s not here, he’s not going to see that,” she said.
Sinclair is appealing to police to review CCTV footage from a house opposite the scene that she said may help identify what happened.
“I really hope the police find whoever did it. They said that the house opposite has cameras, I hope they would ask and see who exactly was there, and we get a little justice for him,” Sinclair said.
Sinclair works as a teacher, while Seecharran earned a living as a labourer. Police said investigations are ongoing. Seecharran’s body has been taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
