Guyana’s premier horse racing event, the Guyana Cup, will return for its 18th running on August 23, at the Rising Sun Race Track, West Coast Berbice.
The event is expected to draw more than 10,000 patrons and will be the largest staging in its history, featuring a record $65 million prize purse and, for the first time, international participation under Guyana’s new horse racing regulatory framework.
Fourteen races are scheduled throughout the day, with first-place prizes ranging from $1 million to $22 million. Regional and international horses and jockeys will compete alongside local entries.
“The Guyana Cup is more than a horse race. It is a celebration of our country’s heritage, our communities and the passion that has united generations of Guyanese through the sport,” said Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr, chief executive officer of Jumbo Jet Events, inviting Guyana and the wider Caribbean to attend.
Race day will include a Sinotruck grand raffle, with every paid admission entered for a chance to win a pickup, alongside a children’s zone, petting zoo, marketplace, food village and live cultural performances.
Organisers said significant investment had gone into upgrading the venue, including expanded bleacher seating, improved spectator viewing, enhanced crowd management, better signage, designated entry and exit points and premium VIP hospitality areas.
The launch follows the establishment of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, which is working to strengthen governance, improve safety standards and support long-term development of the industry.
A Guyana Cup Roadshow will travel across the country ahead of race day, bringing promotional and community engagement events to several regions.
Tickets and further information are available through official Guyana Cup platforms, while media accreditation and interview requests can be directed to the Guyana Cup press office.
