Strong winds bring down rafter, injure teacher at Riverstown Primary

A teacher at Riverstown Primary School in Region Two was rushed unconscious to the Suddie Public Hospital on Wednesday after being struck by a rafter that fell from the roof during strong winds.

The incident occurred at approximately 14:00 hrs while classes were in session. Strong winds caused a section of the roof structure to give way, sending a rafter crashing down and striking the teacher.

Pupils were left shaken by the incident, with several children reportedly crying in fright as staff moved to ensure their safety.

The extent of the teacher’s injuries has not been officially disclosed.
Regional officials are expected to assess the building and determine the necessary safety measures.
