Some 2,500 land titles, transports and certificates of title will be distributed to Guyanese during the International Building Expo 2026, which opens on Thursday at the National Stadium, Providence.
Housing Minister Collin Croal made the announcement during a walkthrough of the expo venue on Tuesday, saying the issuance of titles represented the completion of an important process for beneficiaries.
“People focus a lot on the allocations. That’s your initial stage, signalling that you’re getting land. But it also leads to ownership, and with ownership comes security of tenure and the opportunity to build generational wealth,” he said.
The minister also noted that processing times for titles had been significantly reduced from a minimum of six months when the programme began.
On preparations for the expo, Croal said organisers were focused on the final touches, with tents already in place for exhibitors completing their layouts. He said the event had been designed to appeal to a broad audience, from prospective homeowners to those seeking to renovate or expand existing properties.
More than 250 exhibitors are expected, including banks, insurance companies, contractors, suppliers and developers. Six model homes will also be on display throughout the event.
The expo will feature educational seminars on construction, housing and financing, a dedicated free space for small businesses, a children’s play area, a food court and nightly entertainment.
The International Building Expo 2026 opens under the theme, “Guyana at 60: Building Strong Foundations for a Sustainable Future.”
