89-year-old pensioner drowns while bathing in a canal

An 89-year-old pensioner drowned in a canal at Mainstay/Whyaka, Essequibo Coast, on Wednesday, police said.
David France was last seen alive at his home around 12:45 hrs, police said. He would normally bathe in a canal located about 120 feet east of his residence.

When he was not seen at home by around 15:30 hrs, checks were made and he was found floating in the canal, police said.
His body was removed and taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

An examination showed no marks of violence, police said. The body is at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
