(Times Kuwait) Guyana has expressed great optimism about the future of its relationship with Kuwait, describing bilateral ties as entering a new and promising phase of cooperation across a range of strategic sectors.

Speaking at a reception held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to mark the 60th anniversary of Guyana’s independence and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Chargé d’Affaires of Guyana to Kuwait, Troy Torrington, highlighted the strong foundations underpinning the partnership and praised Kuwait’s contributions to humanitarian and development initiatives worldwide.

The event was attended by Abdulaziz Saud Al-Qatfan, ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and a number of senior officials and dignitaries.

Torrington reaffirmed Guyana’s solidarity with Kuwait amid regional security challenges, stressing that relations between the two countries are built on shared values, mutual respect, and a common commitment to international cooperation, development, and prosperity.

He also commended Kuwait’s role on the global stage under the leadership of HH the Amir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, noting that the country has earned international recognition for its humanitarian efforts and support for development initiatives benefiting communities around the world.

The Guyanese diplomat expressed appreciation for the efforts of Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various government institutions in advancing bilateral relations, while welcoming the participation of Assistant Foreign Minister Al-Qatfan as the official representative of the Kuwaiti government at the celebration.

Highlighting Guyana’s ongoing economic transformation, Torrington pointed to significant growth in the energy sector and emerging opportunities for cooperation with Kuwait and Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He identified investment, energy, infrastructure, and logistics as key areas with strong potential for partnership.

Looking ahead, he said bilateral cooperation could expand further to include private-sector engagement, academic and research collaboration, food security, agricultural development, renewable energy, digital transformation, eco-tourism, healthcare, finance, and sustainable development, paving the way for a broader and more dynamic partnership between the two nations.
