
Two suspects are in custody and cash has been recovered following an alleged robbery under arms on Tuesday night at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, police said.
Police said the incident occurred around 23:30h in the vicinity of the Big Kiss Parking Lot, where a 21-year-old engineer of Wakenaam Island was allegedly attacked by two men.
According to investigators, the victim was walking south when a suspect approached him, pointed what appeared to be a firearm at him and searched his pockets. A second suspect allegedly came up from behind and choked him while the first relieved him of $200,000 in cash and a Samsung S22 cellular phone.
The suspects then fled in a black Toyota Fielder wagon.
The victim later reported the matter at the Parika Police Station.
Acting on information received, police intercepted a black Toyota Fielder wagon and searched the driver, recovering $59,060. A further arrest was made later of a 17-year-old labourer of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, who was found with $65,000 in cash, police said.
The vehicle and recovered cash were lodged as investigations continue.
Both suspects remain in custody assisting with the investigation.
