
Stephen Ragbeer, also known as “Cannon,” a 55-year-old fisherman of Lancaster, Unity Village, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was found dead in his boat on Monday afternoon at the 40 Feet Koker Dam, Unity Village, Mahaica.
Police in Regional Division #4 ‘C’ are investigating the incident, which occurred between 15:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs.
Initial investigations revealed that Ragbeer owned a fishing boat which was usually docked at the location after his daily fishing activities.
Police said that on the day in question, the fisherman was informed that his boat was taking in water, and he subsequently left to check on the vessel.
At about 16:00 hrs, a report was made to the Mahaica Police Station that a man was seen lying motionless inside a boat at the dam.
Police ranks responded and found Ragbeer’s body inside the vessel. He was escorted to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The body was examined and no visible marks of violence were observed.
Ragbeer’s body was later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
