Educators in Linden, Region Ten, marked Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary with a cultural showcase highlighting the country’s ethnic diversity, heritage and unity.
The event, titled “Guyanese Culture and Cuisine,” was organised by the Region Ten Department of Education and brought together teachers, students and members of the public. It featured exhibitions and performances celebrating Guyana’s six ethnic groups through music, dance, poetry and drama.
Regional Education Officer La Shanna Anderson said the observance reflected the country’s progress since independence and its resilience through past challenges.
“The road was not easy… yet Guyanese people have always displayed remarkable resilience,” she said.
She said the country’s development over the past six decades had been driven by that resilience, while noting that people remained its greatest asset despite rapid economic and physical growth.
Anderson urged educators to recommit to strengthening unity through education and inclusion, calling for continued efforts to ensure “every child can dream boldly” and that diversity remains a source of strength.
