A 69-year-old Providence man was found dead in his home with multiple injuries to the head, and three suspects are now in police custody as investigations continue into the alleged murder.
Dead is Mohammed Shaheed, called “Fizal” or “Artist,” a self-employed resident of Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Police said Shaheed was last seen alive on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Checks were later made on him after repeated calls to his phone went unanswered, and he was found motionless in his home on Tuesday, May 19.
Investigators who processed the scene found the body in a state of decomposition. No signs of forced entry were observed at the premises.
The body was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where Shaheed was pronounced dead, before being transferred to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday, May 20, by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as brain haemorrhage due to multiple blunt trauma injuries to the head.
Police said intelligence gathering and the use of technology led to the arrest of a 19-year-old construction worker of Parker Street, Providence, and a 22-year-old porter of Back Street, Peter’s Hall, on Monday, May 25.
A 17-year-old labourer of Parker Street, Providence, was later arrested on Tuesday. Police said he is being treated as a juvenile in keeping with the Juvenile Justice Act.
The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
