The proposed sex offenders registry will be made accessible to the public through the Office of the Commissioner of Police and will not be published online for open access.
Human Services and Social Protection Minister Vindhya Persaud, addressing public concerns over transparency and access, said the registry would not be freely available for digital browsing, noting the need for safeguards in how sensitive information is managed and disseminated.
She said the system “cannot be the Wild West,” stressing the importance of structured oversight.
Under the proposed framework, the registry will remain under the custody of the Commissioner of Police.
Members of the public seeking information will be required to submit written requests to obtain relevant details from the database.
Persaud said the approach is intended to balance public access with responsible handling of sensitive data, adding that while the registry will be available to the public, it will not be openly published or accessible without formal request procedures.
