Police in Regional Division Two are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found on Friday at Capoey Lake on the Essequibo Coast.
The yet-to-be-identified body, a male of mixed ancestry, was found around 18:10hrs after police received a report and responded to the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, officers observed the body lying face up on the bank of the lake, partially submerged in water and clad in black underwear.
A tattoo bearing the word “ANIMAL” and the image of a jaguar was seen on the upper left arm of the deceased, police said.
The body was removed from the scene and taken to Suddie Public Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead. It was subsequently transferred to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
