
Dr Amarnauth Singh has been re-elected President of the Region No. 5 Chamber of Industry and Commerce at its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, as the organisation reaffirmed its focus on business development, private sector growth, and regional economic advancement.
The meeting also saw the election of a new executive committee. Faizal Jaffarally was elected Vice President, Imran Saccoor Secretary, Tage Singh Treasurer, Dhanpall Sukha Public Relations Officer, Arnand Kistoo Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, and Niron Singh Business Liaison Officer.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr Singh thanked members for their confidence, noting that his re-election carries a responsibility to further strengthen the Chamber’s role as a unified voice for enterprise and progress. He pledged continued advocacy for business expansion, increased membership, greater inclusion of women in business, and stronger partnerships to support economic growth across the region.
Delivering the feature address, Captain Gerald Gouveia Jr., Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, emphasised the importance of private sector-led growth, while highlighting the Government’s role in creating an enabling environment. He encouraged businesses to take advantage of training opportunities, including the GOAL scholarship programme, to build capacity and remain competitive.
Gouveia also urged greater collaboration among local firms, including the formation of consortiums to better compete with incoming international companies expected in the Berbice area. He pointed to major upcoming developments, including a proposed airport and a gas-to-shore pipeline, as key opportunities for regional development.
The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to fostering economic prosperity, strengthening partnerships, and positioning Region No. 5 to benefit from Guyana’s ongoing economic transformation.
