The local hospitality landscape has received a significant boost with the commissioning of the Four Points by Sheraton Georgetown, located along the Heroes Highway. The US$30 million investment introduces a 172-room, internationally branded hotel at Houston Yards, further strengthening the country’s capacity to host business travellers, conferences, and large-scale events.
The property seamlessly blends global standards with a distinct local identity. Amerindian craftwork is woven throughout its design—from bespoke furniture and lighting features to decorative wall installations—while interior finishes draw inspiration from Guyana’s natural environment and cultural heritage. Its culinary offerings are equally grounded in authenticity, with a restaurant experience shaped by local cuisine and spices, offering guests a true taste of Guyana.
The opening comes at a time of growing demand, fuelled by an expanding calendar of conferences and major sporting events, which continues to place pressure on existing room stock and modern facilities. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, noted that the development reflects continued expansion in the sector, stating, “With the opening of this hotel, Guyana now has four Marriott-branded hotels,” underscoring rising investor confidence in the destination.
Beyond its role in accommodation, the hotel is expected to generate meaningful economic activity across multiple sectors. It has already provided employment during its construction phase for a wide cross-section of workers and now offers permanent jobs in hospitality, management, culinary services, and maintenance. Further ripple effects are anticipated, with increased visitor spending benefiting local restaurants, transport providers, and tourism operators.
The development also aligns with broader infrastructure upgrades, including the expansion of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, which will significantly enhance passenger capacity and support growing visitor arrivals. Together, these projects form part of a wider national strategy to position Guyana as a premier destination for tourism, conferences, and events—anchored in sustainability, cultural richness, and world-class experiences.
At the commissioning ceremony, President Dr Irfaan Ali remarked that the hotel embodies “pieces of Guyana” woven into its design, reflecting a space intended not only to welcome the world but also to inspire national pride.
