Over 218,000 beneficiaries receive $100,000 cash grants without leaving home

Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance Dr. Ashni Singh

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, said that of this total, 218,227 persons have already been paid directly into their bank accounts through commercial banks and the New Building Society (NBS).

“We had established a dedicated portal for persons to self-register and input their bank information, as a result of which they would be able to have their cash grants paid directly into their bank accounts.

You will be very pleased to know that using those facilities, a total of 216,839 persons have been paid their cash grants directly into their bank accounts,” he stated.

Dr Singh also addressed concerns raised by citizens banking with the New Building Society (NBS), who were initially unable to receive payments through the system.

“This was as a result of some technological issues that are peculiar to that institution. We listened to the concerns that were expressed and we were able to put in place a workaround solution that has now enabled us to include the New Building Society on the portal,” he said.

Since the adjustment, 1,388 persons with NBS accounts have already received their cash grants directly.
In total, 218,227 persons have received direct deposits to their bank accounts, including 216,839 persons using commercial banks and the additional NBS recipients.

Dr Singh also noted that special arrangements were introduced to reach residents in hinterland and remote communities, bringing the overall number of beneficiaries so far to 241,614.

“218,227 persons got their cash grants directly into their accounts without having to leave their homes and without having to join a line,” he said.

He further encouraged citizens to register through the official portal at cashgrant.gov.gy to receive their payments.
