Two walk free in Mobil Gas Station bombing; one committed to trial

Two men were on Monday discharged from the case involving the bombing of a Mobil Gas Station in Georgetown, while a co-accused was committed to stand trial at the High Court.
Fifty-one-year-old Ramesh Pramdeo and 44-year-old Wayne Correia were freed at the Lenora Magistrates’ Court after Magistrate Alisha George upheld a no-case submission, ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a case against them. Their attorney, Bernard DaSilva, argued that the evidence was insufficient and maintained that his clients should have been treated as witnesses rather than defendants, while condemning the bombing of the Mobil Gas Station.
Venezuelan national Jenniffer Rodrigues was, however, committed to stand trial at the High Court for her alleged role in aiding and abetting the bombers.
In a separate proceeding at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, alleged mastermind Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo again told Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, through a translator, that he acted alone and was solely responsible for the Mobil Gas Station bombing, calling for the release of other defendants.
McGusty said due process must be followed and that any request for release must be channelled through the prosecution to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who will review the evidence before making a determination.
Prosecutor Mandell Moore said Poedemo’s admission applies only to him and not to the other accused. Defence attorney Shellon Boyce requested two weeks to prepare a written report, citing the need for translation, with no objection from the prosecution.
The matter was adjourned to May 20, 2026.
