San Francisco Unicorns to debut in Guyana Global Super League

The ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) will feature the San Francisco Unicorns in its upcoming tournament, scheduled for July 23 to August 1 in Guyana, organisers said.

The Unicorns, a leading franchise in Major League Cricket, become the first team from the U.S.-based competition to participate in the event, underscoring efforts to expand links between emerging and established cricket markets.

GSL Chairman Sir Clive Lloyd welcomed the team’s inclusion, saying it reflects the growing global reach of the sport and the rise of franchise cricket in the United States.

“We are delighted to have the San Francisco Unicorns join the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League,” Lloyd said, adding that “Their inclusion reflects the growing global footprint of the game and the strength of franchise cricket in the United States.”

Founded in 2023 as one of six inaugural Major League Cricket teams, the Unicorns play their home matches at the Oakland Coliseum and have reached the league’s playoffs in both seasons to date. Cricket Victoria serves as the team’s high-performance partner.

Unicorns Chief Executive David White said the team was eager to compete on the international stage.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League and to become the first Major League Cricket side to play on the global stage,” White said. He continued: “This tournament brings together some of the best franchise teams in the world, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for our players and fans to be part of a truly international competition.”

The GSL will feature franchise teams and players from multiple countries, with all matches set to be played in Guyana.
The tournament aims to deliver top-tier Twenty20 cricket while strengthening ties across the global game.
