Gold board to produce limited-edition gold medallion for Diamond Jubilee

The Guyana Gold Board (GGB) will produce a limited-edition gold medallion to mark the country’s 60th Independence anniversary, as part of a national initiative to highlight its natural resources sector.

The medallion, to be issued in recognition of Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee, will serve as a symbol of national pride while showcasing the country’s long-standing mining industry, which has supported economic and social development for more than 150 years.

In a first for the country, the medallion will be minted locally using Guyanese gold, in a move aimed at advancing the gold and jewellery value chain.

The GGB said the medallion will feature national symbols reflecting Guyana’s identity, heritage and development goals.
It will be released in limited quantities and offered for sale to the public, with pricing linked to international gold market movements.

The initiative will be launched under a dedicated national brand, in line with government efforts to promote value-added production and strengthen the management of natural resources.
