The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that an inquest be held into the death of Adriana Younge, who was found dead between April 23–24, 2025, in a swimming pool at a property in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
The hotel was burnt down by protesters after her body was retrieved from the pool.
The Guyana Police Force said on Tuesday it had received the DPP’s directive and had begun the necessary steps in keeping with legal procedures.
Younge’s death sparked widespread demonstrations across Guyana, with protesters demanding transparency in the investigation and questioning the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent discovery.
A second post-mortem examination concluded that Younge died by drowning, with no immediate signs of external trauma reported in the initial findings.
The police force said it recognised the importance of maintaining public confidence in cases of this nature and remained committed to professionalism, accountability and integrity in handling the matter.
Further information will be provided as the inquest proceeds, a release said.
