The lifeless body of 53-year-old Raymond Hack of Fyrish Village, Corentyne, was discovered on Saturday afternoon, bringing a tragic end to days of uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.
Hack was last seen on Easter Monday, and relatives had reportedly been concerned about his whereabouts since then.
According to his brother, 68-year-old Hardat Lall, the discovery was made after a passer-by raised an alarm.
Speaking with Ignite News, Lall explained that sometime between 15:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs on Saturday, a young man alerted the family after spotting the body in a savannah area.
“Yesterday around 3 or 4 o’clock, a boy came and told us that he was in the savannah. A boy who was chasing cows saw him in the water, lying down,” Lall recounted.
He noted that water levels in the area had previously been high but had since receded, leading to the grim discovery.
“When he fell, the water was high, but days after the water dropped. So we found him with grass and debris on his head,” he added.
Lall described his brother as a quiet individual who avoided conflict but admitted that Hack had been consuming alcohol regularly.
“He’s a quiet person, not a fighting person… but he had gotten into drinking. He doesn’t have problems with people,” Lall said.
The brother further indicated that he does not suspect foul play in Hack’s death, suggesting instead that he may have lost his way. “I don’t feel there was any foul play. I feel like he went drinking and missed his track,” he stated.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, Lall expressed reluctance about a post-mortem examination, citing the condition of the body at the time it was recovered.
