Azeez’s family calls for thorough investigation into circumstances of lake death

Relatives of Aarif Azeez are calling for justice and a full investigation into his death at the “Hot and Cold” Lake on the Essequibo Coast, saying critical questions remain unanswered.
In a statement issued Friday, the family said the circumstances surrounding the April 6 incident and subsequent recovery of his body have raised serious concerns that go beyond a reported drowning.
They pointed to physical evidence, including visible damage to the jet ski involved and severe injuries observed on Azeez’s body, such as fractures to the right leg, trauma to the face and head, and signs consistent with a heavy impact.
According to the family, the post-mortem examination confirmed that while the cause of death was drowning, it occurred in conjunction with multiple injuries linked to significant force.
The family also raised questions about the position of the vessels at the scene, noting discrepancies between reported accounts and what was observed.
They are now urging authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, including a complete review of all evidence and statements.
The family is also calling for the case to be escalated and handled with urgency, stressing that they will continue to seek accountability for the circumstances leading to Azeez’s death.
