More than $50 billion has been invested in road projects in Region Six over the past five years, Public Works Minister Juan Edghill said.
Speaking during a consultation with stakeholders and residents on Tuesday, Edghill said some $50.1 billion was spent on community roads across the region.
“$50.1 billion in community roads in Region Six… We forgot where we were in the mud, we forgot how the dam used to look, we forgot how things were,” he noted.
He said more than 2,280 lots and roads, including multiple roads serving several communities, had been addressed.
“Now that we have done that extensive work, the complaint used to be… ‘them men only doing the front street… the cross street never get done…’,” he said, adding that works had expanded into communities, with outstanding projects set to be completed in 2026.
He also said over 22,000 street lights had been installed nationwide, with Berbice receiving a significant share.
