Region Three is positioning itself as a premier tourism destination in Guyana with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Essequibo Islands–West Demerara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) and TrailMasters Adventure Tours.
The agreement, formalised at Atlantis Cuisine, West Central Mall, brings together public and private sector stakeholders under a shared vision of unlocking the region’s tourism potential.
Delivering opening remarks, representatives highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing tourism, pointing to Region Three’s rich cultural heritage, waterways and vibrant community life as largely untapped assets.
President of the Regional Tourism Committee, Bibi Meligat, emphasised the importance of community-driven tourism, noting that initiatives will focus on training, capacity building and sustainable development. She said the region is ready to welcome partnerships and investment to showcase its unique identity.
President of R3CCI, Bhabita Albert, underscored the Chamber’s role as a bridge between government and private enterprise, noting that the partnership goes beyond a formal agreement. “This is about understanding what we will build together, starting today,” she said, adding that the collaboration will help guide businesses on emerging opportunities in the tourism sector.
Regional Vice-Chairwoman Anjanie Narine also pledged support, describing the initiative as critical to the region’s development. She noted that increased cooperation between agencies and businesses will help close existing gaps and expand tourism offerings.
Chief Executive Officer of TrailMasters Adventure Tours, Klaus Christopher Chin, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential of the Essequibo corridor — from historic sites such as Fort Island to scenic waterways — as key attractions.
The company has committed to working closely with local stakeholders to create authentic experiences while supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs.
The partnership comes as Guyana celebrates its 60th Independence Anniversary, adding momentum to efforts aimed at diversifying the economy through tourism.
Officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, along with other agencies and private sector partners, attended the event.
The R3CCI–TrailMasters agreement is expected to drive investment, strengthen the tourism ecosystem and create new opportunities for residents across Region Three.
