The Guyana Police Force is urging parents, guardians, and children across the country to observe proper safety precautions while flying kites during the Easter weekend.
While kite flying remains a cherished Easter tradition, the Force reminded citizens that it must be done responsibly to avoid injuries, accidents, and damage to public infrastructure. Members of the public are strongly advised not to fly kites near power lines, utility poles, transformers, or other electrical installations, as doing so can put lives at risk and cause serious disruptions. Persons are also warned against attempting to retrieve kites caught on wires, poles, or other elevated structures.
The Force encourages kite flying only in open spaces such as parks, playgrounds, open fields, and suitable areas including the seawalls, away from electrical hazards and heavy traffic. Parents and guardians are urged to supervise children and ensure they do not run onto roads while chasing or retrieving kites.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken emphasised that safety must remain the priority during Easter celebrations and encouraged all citizens to act responsibly so the holiday can be enjoyed safely.
The Guyana Police Force appeals to all to celebrate responsibly, choose safe open areas for kite flying, and help make the Easter weekend enjoyable and incident-free for everyone.
