Guyana shines at CARIFTA vs The Rest meet

Guyana’s junior team showcased impressive talent during the recent “CARIFTA vs The Rest” meet at the National Track and Field Centre, West Coast Demerara.

The event served as a crucial evaluation ahead of the upcoming CARIFTA Championships, scheduled for April 4–6 in Grenada, and highlighted the athletes’ readiness and potential for regional success.

Among the standout performers was Onesi Dunn, who sprinted to victory in the boys’ 100 metres with an impressive time of 10.23 seconds.

In the field events, Yohance Bourne excelled in the boys’ long jump with a distance of 7.25 metres, while Kaidon Persaud secured third place in the javelin throw with 46.36 metres. Odida Parkinson also delivered a strong performance, winning the boys’ 5000 metres in 15:47.15.

The relay teams showed promise as well, with the CARIFTA Under-20 team winning the boys’ 4×100 metres in 41.76 seconds. The athletes are set to depart for Grenada later this week, building on their strong performances.
