Teenager dies in Linden-Soesdyke Highway accident

A teenager lost her life in an accident on Saturday morning along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway at Moblissa, near Rubin Sawmill.

Dead is 19-year-old Sarah Simon, a resident of Moblissa.
Police said the accident occurred at about 09:45hrs and involved minibus BAK 9272, driven by a 22-year-old man, also of Moblissa.

Initial investigations indicate that the minibus was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Moblissa Public Road at an alleged high rate of speed when the driver, while negotiating a left bend, reportedly lost control of the vehicle. It subsequently turned turtle several times before coming to rest on the eastern parapet.

Both the driver and Simon were pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Simon was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver was admitted as a patient.
Simon’s body was later taken to the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The vehicle has been lodged for examination by a licensing and certifying officer. Investigations are ongoing.
