The construction of the Linden–Lethem road is expected to boost economic activity in the mining town of Linden, with business leaders saying the project will strengthen trade, improve logistics and enhance connectivity to southern regions and neighbouring Brazil.

About 100 kilometres of the 110-kilometre stretch between Linden and Mabura has been completed, marking a key milestone in the infrastructure project.

President of the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development (LCICD), Lyndon Younge, said the road works are already improving access and positioning the town to expand trade and attract investment.

“In recent times, development in Linden has helped to improve access and logistics, putting the town in a better position to expand trade and business opportunities,” Younge said.

He added that Linden’s location could allow it to play a greater role in trade between Guyana and Brazil as connectivity improves.

“With Brazil in close proximity and the infrastructure improvements implemented in Linden, there are growing possibilities for services and commerce,” he said.

Victor Fernandes, an adviser to the chamber, said the Linden–Lethem corridor could transform economic activity across multiple sectors and ease transportation challenges.

“That development and connectivity will bring significant business opportunities to Linden,” Fernandes said.
The road project is part of broader efforts to improve inland connectivity and facilitate cross-border trade.
