Five Brazilians fined, ordered to leave Guyana over illegal entry, mining

Five Brazilian nationals were fined and ordered to leave Guyana within 24 hours after pleading guilty to illegal entry and mining offences, authorities said.

Antonio Isal Das Soura, 49; Michael De Souza Martin, 26; Clinton Martins Fernandes, 19; and Matheus Sere Martins, 20, all of Boa Vista, Roraima, appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court via Zoom on Friday, March 27, 2026.

                                   
The men pleaded guilty to charges of illegal entry and illegal mining. They were each fined $30,000 for illegal entry, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default, and a further $30,000 for illegal mining, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
The court also ordered that they depart Guyana within 24 hours.

In a separate matter, Taiane Macedo Peixoto, a 33-year-old Brazilian national and cook, also appeared before the same court via Zoom and pleaded guilty to illegal mining. She was fined $30,000, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
