The International Building Expo 2026 is being positioned as the largest staging to date, as Guyana expands its housing and infrastructure programme to meet rising demand.

The four-day event, launched on Thursday at the Railway Courtyard, will run from June 25 to 28 at the Guyana National Stadium. It will bring together developers, contractors, architects, suppliers and financial institutions, alongside members of the public.

Housing Minister Collin Croal said the expo has evolved into a central platform linking investors, industry professionals and citizens, reflecting the pace of national development.

Now in its 16th year, the event was conceptualised by President Dr Irfaan Ali during his tenure as housing minister. This year’s theme, “Guyana at 60: Building Strong Foundations for a Sustainable Future,” aligns with the country’s 60th independence anniversary.

Croal said the government is expanding access to land, accelerating housing delivery and upgrading infrastructure such as roads, drainage, electricity and water to support new communities.

Minister within the Housing Ministry Vanessa Benn said the expo comes amid increased demand for labour, as the government targets at least 40,000 new homes within its current five-year plan.

She said demand is rising for skilled trades including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, surveying and architecture, with the expo expected to serve as a hub for jobs, contracts and partnerships.

The event is expected to attract local and international exhibitors while providing information on financing, building technologies and opportunities in the construction sector.
