A team from the United States (US) Embassy’s Department of Commerce has signalled its willingness to help businesses in Linden connect with American partners and explore opportunities for trade, investment and industry collaboration.
The assurance was given during an information session hosted by the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development, where representatives explained how local companies can link with US firms and participate in international conferences and investment programmes.
US Department of Commerce Senior Commercial Officer Bruce Ellsworth told participants that the embassy team can serve as a bridge between businesses in Guyana and potential partners in the United States.
“The U.S. Department of Commerce team and embassies around the world, our first job is to help US companies that want to export to Guyana. But it’s not a one-sided opportunity because any US company that wants to export here can be a partner here,” he said.
Ellsworth noted that many American companies rely on local networks when entering new markets and often request introductions through the embassy.
“Oftentimes US companies ask us to introduce the partner, ask us to give them advice, ask us to do some market research,” he explained.
He encouraged businesses to reach out if they want to build connections with US suppliers or partners.
“If you want something to do with the USA, reach out to us. We’ll talk about it,” Ellsworth said.
He added that the team can also connect local firms with trade shows and industry conferences across the United States, and encouraged businesses to explore major international events such as the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston and the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, DC.
“These conferences… people go, they meet people, they learn. Sometimes they find potential partners,” Ellsworth said.
Following the session, entrepreneur Natasha Simon Cooper of Cooper’s Enterprise described the engagement as informative, noting that she is looking forward to networking and other opportunities.
“For me the session was good. Personally, in my nature of business, the session helped me to know how to regenerate my business,” she shared.
