In the next 24 hours, 48,858 central government employees, including public servants, teachers, and members of the disciplined services, will receive the 2026 National Cash Grant of $100,000, providing nearly $5 billion in additional disposable income, the government said on Thursday.
The grant, first announced by President Irfaan Ali in the 2026 National Budget, is part of a wider initiative to provide every citizen aged 18 and older with a cash payment. Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, said the first cohort comprises employees who receive their salaries via bank accounts.
“We anticipate that these government employees will receive their $100,000 cash grant by the end of next week, and we will follow up with subsequent cohorts of eligible beneficiaries thereafter,” Singh said.
Recipients must have a valid bank account. An online platform launching next week will allow eligible citizens to register, complete a verification process, and receive the grant directly.
Eligibility criteria include citizenship, age 18 or older as of 28 February 2026, possession of a valid national ID or passport, a bank account in the registrant’s name, and physical presence in the country.
This is the second $100,000 cash grant for citizens aged 18 and older, following a similar initiative in late 2024 that delivered over $60 billion to more than 600,000 people. Commercial banks facilitating online account openings include Demerara Bank, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry, Republic Bank, and Scotiabank.
